Is an Israeli Strike on Iran “Inevitable”?
Ahmadinejad spent the weekend trolling Israel by talking up Iran’s “very big new achievements” on the nuclear front.
Tehran insists that its nuclear program is geared to domestic energy, not weapons, but Ahmadinejad’s inflammatory comments seem designed to fuel Western suspicions that he’s developing a nuclear arsenal.
An Israeli attack on Iran is this year is “inevitable,” said Washington Post pundit Charles Krauthammer in a not-at-all-incendiary interview on Fox News:
I cannot imagine the Israelis are going to allow Iran to go nuclear and to hold the Damocles sword over 6 million Jews all over again. Israel was established to prevent a second Holocaust, not to invite one.
What would an Israeli strike mean for the rest of the world? The National Journal’s Michael Hirsch makes some fairly dire predictons:
The most likely response to an attack, analysts agree, would be Iranian-sponsored terrorist attacks on Jews - and possibly Americans - worldwide.
